Summary: As the end of the year approaches, it is time for festivities around the world. Here is our top four destinations for winter holidays.
The winter holidays are here and it’s time to leave the humdrum of our lives behind. For winter holidays we usually prefer two kind of destinations — sunny beaches or snow peaks. One gives us a respite from freezing temperatures back home, while the other is great for winter sports.
Whether you want to bask by the seaside or watch the twinkling winter lights in a snowy detonation, here are our top 5 picks:
Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park, South Africa: This is Africa’s oldest game reserve and home to the big five — lion, cape buffalo, rhino and leopard. Close to Durban, the park is home to many other wild beasts, like warthog, zebra, cheetah, giraffe and impala. Fortunately, for this part of world, December to March is summers. This is the best time to visit the game park when the animals come out to the waterholes or can often be seen crossing the road.
Goa: For every Indian any list of Top Winter Holiday Destination will contain Goa. This is arguably the best place to welcome the New Year. The celebrations in Goa start with Christmas celebrations when the entire state is high on festivities. Goa’s many beautiful churches are thronged with devotees. The celebrations last well beyond the New Year with a number of parties and concerts.
Dublin: It may have started just last year, bit this is an event that is expected to get even bigger — the New Year’s Festival in Dublin, Ireland. The festival features a number of cultural shows, art showcases and live entertainment shows. Attend the many family events, visit its atmospheric pubs and alleys and take part in the Procession of Light that goes through the city centre.
St Mortiz, Switzerland: If you are looking for glamour and old world elegance, it doesn’t get any better than St Mortiz, Switzerland. Located in the Swiss Alps’ Engadin valley has been the favourite escape for the jet set and one of the top destinations for winter sports. Together this makes for an interesting town with plenty of uber luxury hotels, luxury showrooms and an effortlessly stylish, cosmopolitan culture.
